Description

The kit contains standard equipment list that is available in Type B Ambulances during response and patient transport. Based on the local regulations and guidelines, the equipment list maybe varies.

The goal of the Ambulance service (prehospital care) is to minimize further systemic insult or injury and manage life threatening conditions through a series of well-defined and appropriate interventions, plus to ensure patient safety. The following list of equipment is for basic life support during patient transport. However, all equipment must be operational and in closed compartments or otherwise secured to restrict movement in the event of a vehicle crash. When applicable, items must be sealed and within current expiration period. Patient care equipment and oxygen storage in vehicle must be secured in accordance with local guidelines.

Additional Information

Ambulance Cleaning and Disinfection;

Cleaning and disinfection of an ambulance and equipment are necessary to reduce the bioburden of disease and prevent secondary transmission contagious disease. Ambulance cleaning should start at an entrance to the ambulance, and moving towards the dirty area using approved cleaning disinfectant per manufacturers’ guidelines. Note the manufacturers’ “dwell time” or the amount of time a surface must stay wet AFTER cleaning to achieve disinfection. The exterior of the ambulance does not require a full disinfectant wipe down. Once cleaning and disinfection has been completed, collect and package all waste as Category “A” waste and dispose of all waste according to organization protocols as well as local and federal regulations for Category “A” infectious substances.

Stretcher; Stretchers are used to transport patients, who are unable to move because of illness or trauma during medical transport. There should be main ambulance stretcher, minimally equipped with variable height frames, wheels and folding ability plus scoop stretcher for transport a patient out of narrow spaces. The stretcher should be cleaned with antibacterial solution and water followed by alcohol sterilization or should disinfected according to the manufacturer’s instructions or in special protocols as per the local or institutional guidelines after each application before reuse.

Defibrillator; Defibrillation is a treatment for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias and for ambulance services an automated external defibrillator (AED) is required. The AED is designed to analyze the heart rhythm and deliver an electric shock to revive patient from sudden cardiac arrest. The defibrillator should be wiped using an antibacterial cleansing wipe or as per internal operating procedure after each use.

Patient monitor; Patient monitor is required to keeps track of the vital signs (ECG, respiratory rate, O2 saturation level, temperature and etc.) of the patient during transportation. A patient monitor with wireless communication facilities is recommended for emergency transportation services, since it provides real-time patient information to the hospital and enable remote diagnoses, primary care and reduce rescue response time.

Sphygmomanometer; The device is a typical instrument for measuring blood pressure and a wall mounted device is recommended to use during transportation.

Medical oxygen supply equipment; Oxygen supply systems in ambulances is one of the most vital pieces and it is for patients with breathing difficulties such as asthma or to revive a collapsed patient. The list of devices includes portable oxygen cylinder (size F), flowmeter, Humidifier, Oxygen outlets and Oxygen system related hoses. Oxygen supply system components which are directly contact with patients should cleaned with antibacterial solution followed by distilled water or should cleaned according to the manufacturer’s instructions or in special protocols as per the local or institutional guidelines after each application before reuse. Oxygen outlets and Oxygen system related horses should be cleaned weekly or frequency as specified by operating protocol using distilled water.

Suction unit; Suction unit is used to remove obstructions, like mucus, saliva, blood, or secretions that have collected inside the body or the mouth of a patient. Portable, electric suction pumps are ideal for emergency services. Parts of the suction pump should be cleaned with antibacterial soap and water followed by alcohol sterilization or should be disinfected according to the manufacturer’s instructions or in special protocols as per the local or institutional guidelines after each application before reuse.

Ultrasound scanner; Ultrasound scanner is used to guide resuscitation and monitor critically ill persons, provide procedural guidance for improved safety and confirm clinical diagnosis. Hand held scanners are ideal for emergency services. The scanner should be wiped using an antibacterial cleansing wipe or as per internal operating procedure after each use.

Ventilator; A portable medical ventilator is recommended for emergency medical services to support breathing for patients who cannot breathe on their own or having breathing difficulties. The controls and entire outside of the ventilator should be wiped using an antibacterial cleansing wipe or as per internal operating procedure after each use. The ventilator tubing and other parts which are directly contact with patients should cleaned with antibacterial solution followed by steam sterilization or should cleaned according to the manufacturer’s instructions or in special protocols as per the local or institutional guidelines after each application before reuse.

Wheelchair; Wheelchair is used to transport patients with walking difficulties or impossible due to illness, injury, problems related to old age, or disability. The wheelchair should be cleaned with antibacterial solution and water followed by alcohol sterilization or should disinfected according to the manufacturer’s instructions or in special protocols as per the local or institutional guidelines after each application before reuse.

Fire extinguisher; Fire extinguisher is a handheld active fire protection device usually filled with a dry or wet chemical used to extinguish or control small fires.
