Manual resuscitation kit consists of a set of instruments used to facilitate ventilation during breathing emergencies. The kit consists of instruments for adult, child and newborn during emergency situations and the quantities are estimated for 100 patients. The kit is designed for healthcare facilities with low, middle and high resource settings.
The solution has been adapted from Red Cross & Unicef catalogues.
Manual resuscitation is an invasive (with artificial airway) or non-invasive (without artificial airway) procedure, used to facilitate breathing in emergency situations, such as respiratory distress and cardiopulmonary arrest. During the resuscitation procedure self-inflating, manual resuscitation bag (MRB) is used to facilitate breathing with or without an artificial airway in place (endotracheal or tracheostomy tube). The MRB automatically re-expands between breaths and can be used with room air or can be connected to an oxygen source. However, when signs and symptoms of respiratory distress are observed, the patient should be manually ventilation with an MRB attached to a 100% oxygen source. This kit is ideal for emergency situations as no electricity is needed to operate.
Important; During manual resuscitation, it's import to monitor the rate and depth of ventilations. Because, large manual breaths or rapid rates during manual resuscitation may result in dynamic hyperinflation and resultant hypotension. Resuscitation should be carried out by a licensed respiratory care practitioner or authorized trained medical professional after obtaining consent form patient or patient’s garden only.
The kit does not contain oxygen source. But, in the case of oxygen source is required, it is possible to connected one. All reusable resuscitation equipment should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each use.
Additional Information:
Suction pumps: Suction is necessary to clear secretions and to maintain airway patency, and to therefore optimize oxygenation and ventilation in a ventilated patient.
Resuscitator sets: Resuscitator provides continuous positive airway pressure to patients and the kit contains three different sizes for adult, children and infant age groups. The resuscitator set includes self-inflating ventilation bag, oxygen reservoir bag, airway guedels, masks and other accessories for resuscitation.
* The resuscitator sizes could be modified based on the patient population.
Oropharyngeal guedel airway tubes; Oropharyngeal tubes are flanged at the proximal (mouth) end and shaped to conform to the curvature of the palate. When the tube is correctly inserted, the flange sits just outside the lips and the tube keeps the patient's tongue extended and prevents it from opposing against the posterior pharynx. It is important to select correct tube size and correct tube size should track from the corner of the patient's mouth to the angle of the jaw. Insertion of an incorrect size may push the tongue back toward the pharynx creating an obstruction.
* The oropharyngeal tubes are included in the resuscitator set.
Gloves; Gloves are only recommended for staff during resuscitation to reducing risk of injury and exposure to blood, other potentially infectious materials. Latex-free gloves are recommended due to allergies.
* The glove sizes could be modified based on the common size used in the location.
Hand sanitizer; Alcohol based hand sanitizer to perform hand hygiene before and after catheterization.
