Description
This kit has been designed to suture cervical and high vaginal tears by trained health personnel, such as doctors, midwives or nurses with midwifery skills.
Context of use
This kit is intended for use within a health center or hospital-level clinical setting, in cases of cervical and vaginal tearing during childbirth or due to sexual violence.
Adapted from UNFPA (UN Population Fund) guidance, this kit is one part of the Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) kits at Primary Healthcare Facility Level, serving the needs of 30,000 people for 3 months.
Scaling
This kit has been designed to assist in the provision of a BEmONC service for a population of 30,000 people over a 3-month period.
The contents of the kit are based on the assumption that 15% of the people who give birth will need suturing (15% of 300=45 people over 3 months).
